Tesla will reportedly up the costs of imported Model 3 vehicles in China beginning in January 2020.

The move affects imported Model 3 Performance and Model 3 Long Range that is currently priced at China at approximately $72,400 and $62,500, respectively, as per a report by Reuters quoting unnamed sources.

The cost rise comes amid news that Made-in-China (MIC) Model 3 initial customer deliveries are impending and this strategy could be considered a way to promote the Chinese electric vehicle market to purchase the cheaper and locally-assembled Model 3 units.

Earlier reports say that Tesla intends to market the MIC Model 3 components for $50,000 while government subsidies can possibly save consumers around $3,500 after China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology included two variations of this Model 3 on the list of fresh electrical vehicles qualified to receive incentives. The locally-made Model 3 components will be Model 3 Standard components that don’t include without Autopilot and also a Standard Range Plus that comes with fundamental Autopilot.

Before the website update, transportation trucks carrying MIC Model 3 components have been seen departing the Gigafactory Shanghai in which they’re produced. The parking lot of this production centre also rapidly stuffed with Model 3 days after Tesla procured a permit to market.

Gigafactory 3 structure started in January and Tesla managed to prepared its production lines after 10 months and from November, Tesla released the first official pictures of MIC Model 3 components sporting a badge in Chinese characters that mean Tesla on its left rear when donning a Model 3 awful on the perfect rear.

Tesla’s entrance into China, the largest automotive market in the world, serves as an acid test to CEO Elon Musk who wishes to show that sustainability can be sustained by the brand in the market.

In 2017, Chinese consumers bought 777,000 electric cars and also these figures jumped to  1.1 million in 2018, or approximately more than 55% of EVs sold across the world. While the sales of cars in China fell this season, the earnings of cars will rebound come 2020 as automakers including, Tesla, roll out new products and as more supportive government policies come into play. Local manufacturers see the entrance of China as a catalyst to lure more consumers to the vehicle segment.
