Tesla to shut down Model S and Model X lines for 18 days amid Q4’s production push

Recently leaked mails by Tesla CEO Elon Musk have revealed that the electric car maker intends to shut down the Model S and Model X line at the Fremont Factory for 18 days starting December 24, 2020. The reasons behind the halt in the flagship sedan and SUV’s generation were not specified by the business, though speculations indicate that the 18-day halt could be utilized to introduce some much-needed hardware upgrades for its Model S and Model X.

In one of his mails, a replica of which was recovered by CNBC, Elon Musk announced that Tesla workers working on the Model S and X lineup will be provided a complete week of cover to cover 7 of the 18 days which are affected by the shutdown. Hi Team,

The SX lines will be closed down for the holidays starting Dec. 24th and returning Jan. 11th.

We’d want you to choose the chance to refresh or spend time with your loved ones, therefore Tesla will be giving you a complete week pay for the week of Jan. 4th. There will also be restricted paid opportunities for you to encourage different stores or volunteer for deliveries during some of this time.

Dec. 23rd – last day of work prior to shutdown

Dec. 24th-25th – Paid holidays*

Dec. 28th-30th – Unpaid time off (can utilize PTO**), encourage deliveries or other stores.

Dec. 31st-Jan. 1st – Paid Holiday*

Jan. 4th – 8th – Paid time off (40 hours)

Jan. 11th – come back to function

If you want to volunteer for deliveries for Dec. 26th — Dec. 31st, or encourage other stores from Dec. 28th – Dec. 30th, please utilize the survey below to tell us your preference. While the shutdown of this Model S and Model X lineup this Q4 could be interpreted as a bearish sign of decreasing requirement by Tesla critics, this manufacturing halt will give the company some time to update the vehicles’ production facilities.
