Tesla will start the building of its own new Gigafactory in Berlin at the first quarter of 2020, according to a German officer.

The American EV manufacturer has signed a statement of intent with the German state of Brandenburg, in which the brand new Gigafactory is going to be located, stated Joerg Steinbach, the state’s Economics ministry, according to AutoNews.

Earlier this week, Elon Musk declared the Tesla will construct its European production plant near the yet-to-open Berlin Brandenburg global airport and will set a new Research AND Development center inside the city’s limits.

The Gigafactory will produce batteries, electrical motors and vehicles, beginning with the upcoming Model Y SUV and followed with the Model 3.

State police said that Tesla’s investment in the region is going to soon be “in the countless billions ”, with the first phase of production to launch in 2021 and help create between 3,000 to 3,500 new jobs, rising to 7,000 to 8,000 in the future.

Steinbach also called Tesla’s schedule for the factory an one. “They will need to submit records at record speed.

Brandenburg, one of the five national states from the former East Germany, was one of the best contenders for Tesla’s European Gigafactory as it provided at least 100 million euros to the American manufacturer.

Meanwhile, Tesla is about to start revenue of Model 3 vehicles assembled at its all-new Gigafactory in China, which was built in record time. Building a plant from Germany, however, is anticipated to be more challenging as the nation has some of the labor and energy costs.
