Tesla will end its buyer referral program for ‘adding too much cost’

At the end of the month, Tesla will finish a long-running referral program that provided incentives for present Tesla owners to help push sales. In its current iterations, the referral program talented new buyers who found their way to a Tesla through a buddy with six months of free charging at Supercharger stations.

Most recently, the referring friend would become eligible for a set of characteristically outlandish prizes, from starting a selected photograph into deep space orbit to a VIP invitation to one of those firm ’s gaudy unveiling events, based on how many qualifying referrals were created. Tesla’s oft-chatty main executive officer declared the information at a tweet.

The Tesla customer referral program can end on Feb 1. If you would like to consult a friend to obtain a Tesla & provide them 6 months of complimentary Supercharging, please do this ahead of time.

The referral program was a clever choice by a company with such extreme loyalty, putting many Tesla acolytes to operate by turning them in to semi-compensated new ambassadors. Unfortunately for them, it wasn’t sustainable.

In followup tweets, Musk added more insight to the decision to terminate the program, noting that the entire item was “incorporating too much cost to the cars, particularly Model 3. ” He further clarified the app wasn’t being replaced by something new. Rather, “the entire referral incentive program will finish. ”

Tesla owners may have until the close of the month to hustle for present incentives. Tesla orders should be placed before February 1 to qualify. How difficult can it be to talk with your acquaintances into impulse-buying a high-end all-electric status symbol within a month’s period?
