Tesla Will Start Exporting China-Made Model 3s To Europe In The Coming Months

It might seem that Tesla intends on exporting Model 3 EVs constructed at the carmaker’s Shanghai plant to markets such as Europe, according to individuals knowledgeable about the matter.

Those people claim these China-built Model 3s will enter production in Q4 of this year, and that their target markets include not only Europe, but also Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. Shipments could begin either by the end of 2020 or at early 2021.

A spokesperson for Tesla at China declined to comment on this particular report, as per Autonews Europe.

Tesla also wants to ramp up manufacturing in China as competition from the space intensifies – local competitions BYD have a strong footing on earth ’s biggest car marketplace. In terms of Europe, in which EV sales have more than doubled between January to July of this year (compared to 2019), Tesla will face significant competition from the VW Group, Renault and the PSA Group.

The EV-maker is obviously also building a mill near Berlin, in Germany, together with Elon Musk targeting a mid-2021 manufacturing start, which is remarkably ambitious.

In China, Tesla currently moves approximately 11,000 units a month, each of domestically. By comparison, competitions such as NIO are averaging only 3,500 cars.

Meanwhile, the markets such as Singapore, Australia and New Zealand have trailed both Europe and China at EV adoption, and should present a bigger challenge for Tesla, that may want to generate some changes to its assembly line in Shanghai so as to aim these right-hand drive countries.
