Tesla is dominating the electric car market in China but this past year, it is forecast to face unprecedented challenges from its rivals.

This calendar year, Tesla has offered approximately 120,000 vehicles in China, making the Asian country the carmaker’s largest economy behind the United States. As striking as that amount is, some analysts think Tesla’s Chinese earnings will skyrocket next year but neighborhood EV manufacturers should also experience revenue increases.

Even the China Passenger Car Association speculates that Tesla might sell as many as 280,000 vehicles in the country next year, spurred on by the simple fact that the Model Y being assembled at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory is draining the final regulatory stages before earnings of it start next year. Elon Musk anticipates the Model Y to outsell the Model 3, Model S, along with Model X combined.

“China could see eye-popping need into 2021 and 2022 round the board with Tesla’s flagship Giga 3 footprint a significant competitive edge,” said Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives in an interview with all Bloomberg.

Even though Tesla’s earnings in China are predicted to grow, the China Passenger Car Association predicts total earnings of 1.7 million fresh energy vehicles in the country in 2021, meaning more than 80 percent of the market will stay up for grabs. Companies such as Nio, Xpeng, and Li are in an fantastic position to capitalize on growing EV earnings.

“Since June, you’t noticed a constant rise in earnings by Nio, Xpeng, along with Li,” said chief executive of advisory company Automobility Ltd, Bill Russo. “Can you stay competitive with these fast-moving, internet-backed, really deep-pocketed companies? ”

It’s ’s not just Chinese automakers that Tesla needs to worry about. Classic car manufacturers like Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz are aggressively expanding into the electrical vehicle space and European revenue statistics show the VW ID.3 is currently selling like hotcakes.
