Despite the offering of American muscle cars now, there’s only one regarded as America’s sports car. That car is the Chevrolet Corvette.

The Corvette is now in its eighth production — and for the very first time in its own background, it finally has the installation that makes it competitive with the likes of the European supercars.

View, for the initial seven generations, the Corvette stuck with an extremely traditional, front-engine design, meaning its engine was situated facing the driver. Naturally, there’s nothing wrong with a front-engine installation, but it is also a set up that very pedestrian cars such as Toyota Camry have.

In racing and with supercars, there is a design usually a lot favored. There is A mid-engine design as soon as the engine is located behind the driver and between the front and back axles of the car. Generally, mid-engine cars provide balance and managing because the aspect of the car — its motor — isn’t located on only one end.

For years , speak to a mid-engine Corvette flitted about the automotive industry. Years went by and nothing definite came from it. The”mid-engine Corvette” sort of became a tall tale.

Those rumors have been eventually laid to rest with the eight-generation Corvette, also known as the”C8″ creation: that the mid-engine Corvette, actualized. America’s sports car had ultimately grown up and was ready to undertake the performance segment.

How did we get here? Why does the C8 matter? Dear reader, keep scrolling to discover.

On January 17, 1953, the Chevrolet C1 Corvette was displayed as a”dream car” in the General Motors Motorama exposition in the Waldorf Astoria hotel in New York City.

The Corvette emblem bore two crossed flags: a checkered one and yet one with the Chevrolet bow-tie and a fleur-de-lis — a French symbol for innocence.
