Tinder Profile Videos & Hot Takes Update: New Features Explained

Tinder has added a bunch of new features to the app, including the option to add videos to a profile, a new Explore tab, and an ice-breaking Hot Takes tool to ease the process of finding a match. Over the course of the past few months, the dating app has introduced other new features, such as a blocking tool that prevents certain people in a user’s contacts list from seeing their Tinder profile. Prior to that, a Vibes feature also made its way to Tinder, allowing users to share their opinions and learn about a potential match before they actually start a conversation.

Vibes was preceded by the launch of a background check feature developed in collaboration with Garbo that helps users to identify potentially dangerous matches. Tinder even announced a partnership with Lyft back in March of this year that lets users book a ride for their match. To prevent catfishing, an AI-based verification test was also added to Tinder, asking users to match their profile pictures with a series of selfies.

Among the new features announced today, the most notable one is videos on a Tinder profile. Instead of just uploading pictures, users can now record short introductory videos and add them to their dating profile. Tinder says that videos widen the scope of self-expression and allow users to more accurately represent their personality and interests in hopes of finding a match. The app even now comes with an in-built editor that lets users trim and post only the best segment of a video to their profile.

Making its debut on Tinder is Hot Takes. As the name suggests, it is somewhat of a polling feature that gauges the opinion of two people on a topic and then offers a match based on what they think. There is a timed aspect to it as well. As the timer ticks, users can choose if they want to match with the other person, or move to a different Hot Takes quiz with another individual. Hot Takes will start appearing for Tinder users today, and will be live each day between 6 p.m. and midnight.

Finally, Tinder is adding an Explore section to allow users to check profiles with similar interests by segregating profiles based on the interests mentioned in their bio. For example, the Thrill Seeker group will consist of users that share a love for adventure sports, such as skydiving, surfing, and hiking. Explore will go live later this summer, and will also play host to other in-app Tinder events as well.
