Toyota CEO inadvertently validates Tesla Energy while dubbing EVs as “overhyped”

Toyota President Akio Toyoda Unintentionally Created a case for Tesla Energy while speaking during a Seminar for the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association on Thursday, December 17. Toyoda said that EVs were “overhyped” and implied that more of these would undermine carbon dioxide in Japan, thinking about the source of the country’s power.  Companies like Tesla Energy may be a part of the remedy to the issue Toyoda described.

Toyoda calculated that Japan can spend involving ¥14 trillion ($135 billion) to ¥37 trillion ($358 billion) to create the infrastructure for an entire EV fleet, documented The Wall Street Journal. He also indicated that the country might run out of power if the roads were dominated by EVs.

“The further EVs we build, the carbon dioxide has,” the Toyota chief stated, drawing attention to the source of Japan’so power.

As per a report by the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), 70 percent or 661 TWh of overall power generation in Japan came from fossil fuels in 2019. Coal accounted for 31% of the country’s energy generation, although natural gas accounted for 27%, last year.

Given the resources of Japan’s energy, Toyoda’s worries seem validated. Yet, his discussions also happen to encourage Elon Musk’s overarching target for Tesla.

Within one of his Master Plan, Musk wrote that Tesla intends to reevaluate the change in a “mine-and-burn” hydrocarbon market to a solar electrical market. Tesla may have chosen to enter the vehicle industry because transport was an essential part of the hydrocarbon market. For example, shipping accounted for 38% of Japan’s petroleum ingestion in 2018.

Based on Toyoda’so arguments, it appears Elon Musk predicted how much the transition into EVs would impact power generation years back. With that in mind, Tesla Energy and its expanding product lineup makes sense.

Tesla Energy’s function indicates that renewables and battery power storage systems may be the reply to the power generation problems Toyoda hinted at throughout the seminar. Tesla’s energy division has started its journey for a utility supplier in several nations, for example, United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, and maybe even Israel. Tesla Energy also launched a Powerpack setup to encourage Osaka’s train platform.
