Sic semper tyrannis. True to its motto, Virginia has dealt a death blow to the tyranny of school buses. A few weeks ago, we emphasized some successful electrical school bus V2G pilots, mentioned the many benefits, however lamented that we appeared to be stuck together using one-off pilot projects involving only a couple of school buses. However, Virginia and usefulness Dominion Energy have delivered us salvation: They will buy a minimum of 1,050 V2G electrical school buses during the next five decades. That single purchase dwarfs all others, and will function as the catalyst for a nationwide fleet conversion by pulling down the upfront price of electrical school buses. Additionally, it will hopefully shame the rest of the US into stopping purchases of diesel school buses that are child-poisoning. However, it doesn’t end there.
