Mobile phone giant suggests target to slash emissions from companies which use services and its network
Vodafone has announced plans to shift its whole European cellular network to run on 100 percent renewable electricity by no later than July 2021, along with a new target to assist its business clients slash their climate effect during the next ten years.
The telecoms giant on Friday said it aimed to run a”Green Gigabit Net” because of its clients across 11 European economies powered only be power from wind, solar and hydro sources over 12 months, covering countries such as the UK, Ireland, Germany, Spain, Italy and Greece.
Approximately a third of Vodafone’s network is powered by renewables, and Friday’s statement brings forward Vodafone’s present target date for a network by three decades.

In addition, Vodafone has also worked together with climate consultancy the Carbon Trust to develop a new cumulative target to decrease the equivalent of 350 million tonnes of CO2 out of 2020-2030 over its value chain, which it stated would mostly be delivered via its Internet of Things (IoT) services, such as logistics, fleet management, intelligent metering and production activities.
