VW Group chief exec Herbert Diess believes that technology giants now pose more of a challenge for the automaker going ahead than its conventional rivals.

Last week, Diess mapped out a plan that will visit Volkswagen’s enormous Wolfsburg plant taking on Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory, with the latter bound to draw engineers, workers and ultimately clients right about the German carmaker’s home turf.

More recently however, based on Bloomberg, VW’s boss took to Linkedin in order to address the topic of tech giants entering the automobile market. When asked about reports of Apple creating a car, he said: “We anticipate new opponents who will surely accelerate the shift in our business and bring new skills. The incredible evaluation and the nearly unlimited access to resources instill a whole great deal of admiration within us. ”

“I’ve said it before – the most valuable business on the planet will again be a freedom company. It may be Tesla, Apple or Volkswagen,” he further added.

After getting a new vote of confidence from the automaker’s board this past season, Diess is absolutely free to focus on enlarging the VW Group’s EV lineup with new versions like the ID.4 crossover, Audi e-tron GT and Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo.

In terms of Apple, a recent report asserts its Project Titan vehicle is back on track, with a possible release window scheduled for 2024. According to Reuters, the car’s battery might feature a monocell design that “bulks up the cells in the battery and frees up room in the battery package ”.
