World’s first industrial electric excavator has a 300 kWh battery pack that triples Tesla’s P100D

Pon Equipment established in Gjelleråsen, Norway has converted an industrial excavator to work on batteries alone, the first of its kind. According to the company’so called CEO, Erik Sollerud, the system uses a 300 kWh battery pack that’s three times the capacity of Tesla’s 100 kWh battery which ’s found in its own flagship Model S and Model X automobile. Following an eight month growth process, the first of eight excavators is prepared for shipping to Norway’s largest construction firm, Veidekke. The base version used for the electric conversion is that the Cat® 323 Hydraulic Excavator, also a 28-ton system assembled by American mining and construction equipment maker Caterpillar.
