Stick your head in the sand all you want, traditional automobile fanatics–there’s a reckoning on the distant horizon. Just as we’d like to believe the increasing swell of both EV legislation along with the jagged bans on brand new vehicles powered by fossil fuels won’t expand to our beloved classics, something’s gotkindly provide.

Now, we don’t even believe a blanket ban on gas-powered cars both new and old is in the future, considering the overwhelming majority of current automobile and truck owners in this planet cannot afford to upgrade to a shiny new EV–moderately priced or –nor does the present charging infrastructure support such a radical paradigm shift. Expect revenue of gas-powered vehicles to be prohibited in some significant metropolitan areas, but the ICE company to continue as usual in less population-dense regions –for a little while.

Still, if you would like to get in front of the curve, then California-based EV workshop Zero Labs just pulled the covers off an all-new contemporary skateboard EV platform for a variety of classic vehicles. Er, perhaps don’t even call it a “skateboard” platform; the launch page for the new chassis especially derides this tag, and instead categorizes it as a “classic electric platform. ” Like the full-scale production skateboard–um, creation electrical –programs we’ve ever noticed from automakers such as Rivian and Tesla, Zero Labs’ powertrain chassis presents the chance for a “just one size fits ” strategy, with assurances the traditional electric platform is prepared to convert a vast array of body dimensions and fashions.

Zero Labs’ isn’t quite ready to launch a full list of automobiles and vans, however, it confirmed four different categories; antique 4x4s from involving 1947-1975, muscle cars assembled pre-1975, two-door coupes from 1948-1975, along with timeless pickups in 1947-1975. On the brand new platform’s landing page, there are silhouettes of a air-cooled Porsche 911, 1950s-era Ford F-100, and a late 1960s Ford Mustang fastback, providing us a little hint at which sort of conversions we can count on. Given Zero Labs’ before electrified Ford Bronco and Series Land Rover high-concept projects, there seems to be an emphasis on the 4×4 class, together with conversion bundles already confirmed to the Bronco, Land Rover Defender 110, International Scout, Toyota FJs, Series Land Rovers, Ford F-100, along with Ford F-150.
