Driven: Peugeot e-2008 Is A Surprisingly Fun To Drive Little Electric SUV

When there’s one car that the PSA Group should look at sending to the United States, along with their own Peugeot 508 sedan along with the 3008 SUV, it could be the e-2008.

It’s a small crossover, about precisely exactly the same size as a Hyundai Kona, powered by a 100 kW (134 HP) electric engine and a 50 kWh battery. Mind you, it isn’t an perfect EV by any way. Its range is decent but not good, and it conveys the same architecture as its internal combustion-engined siblings. It’s not especially fast, but it will get the job done (more on that later).

Our test car was a GT spec model, using a Vertigo Blue outside, with a black roof, chrome elements, 18-inch brakes, tinted windows and a body-color leading grille. This is undoubtedly a youthful-looking vehicle and, depending on their way of life, it may even suit a small family in some specific markets.

In 4.3 meters (14.1 ft ) long and 1,77 m (5.8 ft ) wide, the e-2008 is quite compact and not overly bloated. You do need to watch your mind once you buy in though if you’re feet or taller, as that roofline is really low. You can get used to it, however, the first few times you get in, you might even smack your head from the roof, even as I shamefully did.

The wheelbase measures 2.6 meters (7.54 ft ), nearly the same as you get into something like a VW Golf hatchback, so again, this isn’t even a remarkably small crossover, so as two adults can definitely sit at the back in adequate comfort provided that they’re not quite tall.

Trunk space isn’t bad either, using 405 liters (14.3 cu.ft) in your disposal. That ought to be sufficient for 2 mid-size travel bags, also various other items.

Modern interior, however there are some Problems

The e-2008, like the regular 2008, comes with Peugeot’s i-Cockpit dashboard, or more especially the i-Cockpit 3D version, which provides all very important information on the digital gauge cluster closer to a line of sight. This brings us range, and that is where it gets somewhat tricky, because while you may “theoretically” traveling 200 miles (322 kilometers ) on a single charge in the WLTP cycle, you’ve just got a 50 kWh batterylife, therefore those 200 miles will be exactly what you may call a “beyond best example scenario”. If you fancy busy driving the tiniest bit, you’ll likely need to charge your e-2008 once every 3-4 workdays – and you’ll require quick charging (which isn’t available everywhere) so as to best the battery to 80% in approximately 30 minutes or so.

The ultimate financial EV crossover?

Probably not, although it’s a fairly good car overall. Supremely easy to push, with a comfortable ride, reasonably nippy and modern-looking. The purchase price is interesting also, but we wouldn’t recommend getting the flagship spec as you’d be approaching Tesla Model 3 territory in some EU countries.

The top of the lineup GT model using all the optional panoramic sunroof and Vertigo Blue exterior retails for 41,031 euros ($48,000) at Romania, all taxes included. But you can find an entry-level one from just under 34,000 euros ($40,000). In the UK for example, the e-2008 range falls off from pound;32,065 ($41,487), and it is more or less the same.

Remaining at the UK, a Mustang Mach-E can be had from £40,270 ($49,924) and it comes with a 75.7 kWh battery and a concentrated range of 280 miles (451 kilometers ). It’s not that far quicker compared to e-2008 to 60 mph, however it’s got a better range and is much more spacious. So yes, it’d likely make sense to go for an entry level Mach-E over a top-spec Peugeot e-2008 since you’re becoming car for the price.

Would it make sense in the U.S. however? Perhaps, if exceptionally priced. Unfortunately it’s tough to say if it’ll ever produce the trip more.

Everywhere else, in case you would like ’t need anything larger, picking for it pretty much beats becoming some of its internal combustion-engined allies; the e-2008 is undoubtedly the one to have.
