Elon Musk said Tuesday during an awards ceremony in Germany that Tesla’s European gigafactory is going to be constructed in the Berlin area.
Musk was on stage to Get a Golden Steering Wheel Award given by BILD.
“There’s not enough time attempting to tell every detail,” Musk said during an on stage interview with Volkswagen Group CEO Herbert Diess. “But it’s in the Berlin area, and it’s close to the new airport. ”
Tesla is going to create an engineering and design center in Berlin since “I think Berlin has a number of the greatest art on the planet,” Musk explained.
Musk occurred to Twitter following the ceremony and also provided a bit more detail, such as this factory will build batteries, powertrains and vehicles, beginning with the Model Y.

Diess thanked Musk while on stage for “pushing us” towards electrification. Diess said that Musk and Telsa is demonstrating that even moving electrification works.
“I would like ’t think Germany is that far behind,” Musk explained when asked about why German automakers were supporting in electrical vehicles. He added that a number of the greatest cars in the world are made in Germany.
“Everyone understands that German technology is outstanding and that’s part of the reason we re locating our Europe in Germany,” Musk explained.
