Lucid Air Laps Laguna Seca Faster Than A Ferrari 488 GTB During Testing Session

Lucid has published a video and photographs of a current testing session at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca track that saw a tri-motor prototype of the Air Cable the circuit in just 1:31.3.

The automobile manufacturer states that the lap time was achieved during a testing session conducted by its chassis engineering team on September 17. Sitting behind the wheel was John Culliton, a mechanical engineer in Lucid, as opposed to an experienced racing driver. Lucid notes that the time was set with the car using wider-than-stock tires and wheels, while images affirm that the automobile ’s interior was stripped out and there was a roll cage in the rear.

A period of 1:31.3 sets the tri-motor Lucid Air just one second behind the ideal time lately recorded by means of a Tesla Model S Plaid prototype. To Lucid’s credit, it has also published video of the tri-motor Air running the quarter-mile in 9.245 seconds, while Tesla’s claim of a sub-9-second quarter-mile from the Model S Plaid is not anything more than that at the moment: a claim.

The production car lap record at the circuit is that the McLaren Senna having a period of 1:27.62. A period of 1:31.1 sets the Lucid Air just 0.4 seconds behind a McLaren P1 and quicker than a Ferrari 488 GTB, Chevrolet C7 Corvette ZR1 and nearly two seconds quicker than a Mercedes-AMG GT R.

Besides getting a stripped-out cottage, the Lucid Air prototype used during testing has a range of aero parts that lower variants don’t. For example, it sported a big ducktail rear spoiler, a large rear diffuser, and bespoke canards front. It also had flared wheel arches to encourage the wide tires and wheels.
