Randy Pobst Will Tackle Pikes Peak In Stripped-Out Tesla Model S Plaid

The Tesla Model S Plaid was only unveiled a few days ago and already, Randy Pobst has announced that he will be driving one at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

This Model S Plaid has been modified by Unplugged Performance and has already been tested at the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca track. Last year, Pobst drove (and crashed) a Tesla Model 3 modified by Unplugged Performance at Pikes Peak.

Motor Trend notes that after taking delivery of its Model S Plaid, Unplugged Performance stripped out its interior and fitted a roll cage and a racing seat with six-point racing belts. The tuner has also fitted a new front splitter and an adjustable rear wing, while the car sits on custom forged aluminum wheels shod in Yokohama Advan slicks. Unplugged Performance has also fitted new brake rotors, air jacks, Bilstein dampers, and a three-way adjustable rear anti-roll bar.

Prior to Pikes Peak kicking off in the last week of the month, Unplugged Performance will equip the car with fully adjustable upper control arms, adjustable rear camber arms, and high-performance brake pads.

While testing of the car has only just started, Unplugged Performance founder Ben Schaffer says that, unlike the Model 3 Performance that the tuner took to Pikes Peak last year, the power of the Model S Plaid does not decrease as it loses charge. In fact, Pobst told the team behind the car that with 34 per cent charge remaining, it felt just as quick as it did with a full charge.
