Tesla activates its camera-based driver monitoring system

Tesla has triggered its vehicles’ camera-based driver monitoring system. The presence of the new feature was shared by Tesla owners that recently took delivery of his Model Y.

As shared by new Tesla proprietor Kevin Smith, his vehicle was armed with the organization ’s pure eyesight Autopilot platform . This meant some features like Smart Summon and Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance were briefly handicapped, also Autosteer was restricted strictly to 75 mph. The minimum following distance was longer too.

Aside from this, the newly-delivered Model Y also had its camera-based driver monitoring system empowered. An image of the feature as displayed from the newly-delivered Model Y provided details about the way the feature worked. Following is Tesla’s explanation of its driver monitoring system.

Cabin Camera Updates

The cottage camera over your rearview mirror is now able to detect and alert driver inattentiveness whilst Autopilot is engaged. Camera data does not leave the car itself, so the system cannot save or transmit data unless information sharing is permitted. To change your information settings, tap Controls > Safety & Security > Data Sharing on your car’s touchscreen.

Tesla’s active driver monitoring system has obtained some optimistic comments from Autopilot critics. One of those is Consumer Reports Director of Auto Testing Jake Fisher, that noted that the new feature will not only prevent Autopilot misuse; it can also save lives by preventing burnout. Fisher added that he’s looking forward to assessing Tesla’s motorist monitoring system.

The Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, in Addition to the refresh Model S and Model X, are equipped with an inner camera. However, the utilization of the inside camera has been quite restricted, at least before the recent update. The cameras remained inactive for a long time until last year when Tesla asked owners if they’d permit the enterprise to take images and videos from the detector to help develop safety features and enhancements.
