Tesla Giga Berlin’s battery facility to go beyond price parity against gas cars

Elon Musk recently said that Tesla would like to achieve 50&penny; to 55&penny; each kWh in the cell degree at Gigafactory Berlin’s battery life facility. If Tesla is successful, EVs would achieve far beyond price parity with ICE vehicles, leading to a swift death for gas cars.

In a section in the European Battery Conference in Europe, Elon Musk discussed Tesla’s battery Manufacturing goals in the future. Musk considers Tesla has achieved all significant battery production objectives, like rapid recharge and also a higher cycle life, except for price reduction.

“What we now see is the basic impediment to progress with batteries would be the price tag,” he also said. Lowering the cost of battery production is going to be the key to EVs being priced in exactly the exact same amount, or maybe even lower, than ICE vehicles.

Did not misspoke – cell degree, if 10Wh cell amount energy – 50cents – that signifies 50$/KWh. Correct sharp and mathematics brain early in the morning 🤣

The general consensus was that Tesla needs to achieve $100 per kWh to achieve price parity with traditional vehicles. Elon Musk suggested that Tesla intends to go beyond that goal. “The long-term goal would be to try to get to a price per kilowatt-hour of maybe around 50percent; or 55&penny; in the cell level, to get a long-range battery cell,” he explained.

At these levels, Tesla would be spending an insanely small amount to produce cells in a 100kWh pack, calculated TSLA investor Warren Redlich. Battery expert Dr. Shirley Meng crunched the numbers too and verified that Musk wasn’t mistaken.

1865 is the current form factor for quote, potential for 4680 that will take lots of work. Materials in cells will be recycled in the future, so maybe the quote already included recycling advantage. Surely close to our quote …off with an order of magnitude!

Elon Musk proposed that Gigafactory Berlin could create an affordable, compact car for Europe. The compact automobile will likely be mass-produced and would require a high number of batteries to be priced competitively. If Tesla can achieve 50percent;-55&penny; per kWh in the cell level, the cost of $ Giga Berlin’s compact car would be equivalent to that of an affordable Toyota car or even cheaper.
