Tesla’s role as supplier of million-mile batteries to be shunned by rival carmakers: professor

Elon Musk was fairly open to the concept of Tesla eventually becoming a provider of EV components like batteries along with carmakers. This is notable considering that Tesla’s powertrain and batteries are next to no one, being the secret sauce of forms to the efficiency, power, and operation of the business ’so lineup of premium cars that are electrical.

The Tesla CEO emphasized this position when he noted on Twitter that “Tesla is available to licensing applications and supplying batteries & powertrains. We’re trying to accelerate sustainable energy, not conquer competitors! ” Musk’s statement really rings true, believing the company has played the part of battery provider to Daimler and Toyota in the past.

Tesla’s most noteworthy advantage in the electric car market suggests a move to the part of a battery and powertrain provider is within the business ’s aims. This is noteworthy amidst Tesla’s highly-anticipated attempts to roll and present a batterylife, which will be game-changing for its EV market. Considering Tesla’s place in the international EV section, one would infer the company’s batteries would be received favorably by other carmakers.

Prof. Hwang Sung-ho, a mechanical engineering professor at Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, begs to disagree, since he believes Tesla’s transition to the function of battery provider may not be as smooth as anticipated by the business ’s supporters. In an announcement to The Korea Herald, Prof. Hwang stated that Tesla’s place in the automobile market could actually discourage rival EV manufacturers from using Tesla’so batteries, even if the business comes out with industry-leading cells like the million-mile battery.

“There is a possibility that Tesla will offer its own batteries to automakers since the more batteries it makes, the cheaper they get. But, automakers won’t purchase batteries from Tesla no matter how good they could be since Tesla is their rival from the automobile market,”” Hwang said.

The professor added that veteran carmakers, some of whom could make much better cars than Tesla, would hesitate to buy cells from the Elon Musk-led company. Hwang explained by partnering with Tesla and obtaining their batteries, heritage carmakers, especially individuals from Europe, will danger exposing their trade secrets to the younger EV maker.

“If an automaker decides to produce a new EV and load it with Tesla’s batteries, then the automaker must share and exchange much detailed technological information with Tesla for several years for the optimization of batteries. European automakers, who can make cars better than Tesla, won’t risk ruining their know-how. Simply Chinese automakers or people who don’t have a technological lead contrary to Tesla will think about supplying batteries from the business,” the professor stated.

Regardless of Prof. Hwang’s reservations, the allure of Tesla’s batteries will probably be attractive for other automakers nonetheless. Tesla, after all, may be a young carmaker, however, it’s one of the market’s car producers today. This usually means that the company knows EVs inside out, which is only one of the reasons why its vehicles like the Model Y Dual-Motor AWD can go beyond 300 EPA miles onto a 75 kWh batterypowered. If Tesla offers batteries and its powertrain at an affordable price, is a likelihood that the firm will likely be well received by other carmakers.
