Closer look at Rivian’s R1T, R1S battery pack and driver-assist system

Rivian recently revealed more information regarding its R1T pickup truck along with R1S SUV. Teslarati previously discussed the price and specific trims and/or gear packages which Rivian provides for the R1T along with R1S, including the Launch Edition, Adventure Package, and Explore Package.

The Launch Edition, as well as the Adventure and Explore Package R1T along with R1S vehicles have an estimated 300+ miles of range per charge, based on Rivian. During the initiation of the R1T along with R1S ago in 2018, Rivian remarked that it would be releasing three more battery options for its automobiles: a 105 kWh package, capable of supplying 230+ mph of scope; a 135 kWh battery using 300+ miles of range, and a 180 kWh package that offers 400+ miles of range. It seems Rivian’s early production vehicles will be equipped with its mid sized battery. 

The EV truck manufacturer did notice, however, that the 400+ mile version of the R1T will be available starting in January 2022. It is going to only offer the 300+ mile R1T version in 2021 and a longer-range version with seven or five seats will be announced at a later date. A 250+ mile version, which is offered at a lower price, will be accessible for the R1T and R1S in a subsequent date also.

Rivian’s R1T along with R1S line will come standard with Rivian Driver+, both the organization ’s advanced driver-assist system, that promises to a real hands-free driving aid experience. The system will be capable of over-the-air software upgrades. 

Comparable to Tesla’s Autopilot, Rivian Driver+ is going to have the ability to automatically steer, fix rate, and switch lanes. But, Rivian noted that the system is only going to be available on select highways in start. More areas will be accessible later on. Additionally such as Autopilot, Driver+ needs drivers to have their entire attention on the road.

The specs and features Rivian chose to include in its R1T pickup truck along with R1S SUV reflects the type of automaker it needs to be and they kind of vehicles it needs to provide to drivers that enjoy having adventures outdoors, such as overlanding. Particular features, such as the capacity of the R1T’s manual tonneau cover to modify into a desk, look specifically tailored for certain pickup truck users. It’s ’s almost like each Rivian car will be a “bespoke” vehicle.

The success of Rivian’s take over the EV pickup and SUV is going to be known in due time, many probably after Summer 2021 when deliveries of their R1T along with R1S Launch Editions are slated for launch.
