Elon Musk recently shared several key updates for Tesla’s upcoming FSD Beta Version 9 release. The highly-anticipated upgrade, that has seen some delays so far, is expected to introduce some significant improvements to the robust driver-assist system.
In a recent pair of tweets, Elon Musk clarified that Tesla had been focusing on the elimination of radar in the FSD Beta, and the CEO notes must introduce a notable improvement to the operation of the advanced driver-assist package. Musk’s upgrade was brief, although he mentioned that the FSD Beta V9 release ought to be ready a week, at least for testers in the United States.

Elon Musk has highlighted Tesla’s change to a pure vision system in recent months. Back in March, the CEO noticed that pure eyesight is how to “real-world AI. ” Musk later clarified that eyesight has “more accuracy ” compared to radar, which cameras have a lot of orders of magnitude more bits/sec compared to radar. Cameras can then render behind radar as eyesight processing improves.

Interestingly , Elon Musk mentioned that Tesla’s vision-only approach should eliminate issues like ghost braking, which occurs sometimes when Autopilot encounters a bridge or overpass. He also clarified that the FSD Beta V9 expansion must occur a month or 2 from today. Musk also confessed that the release of the driver-assist program ’s wide beta was quite hard to predict accurately.

Finally, Elon Musk provided a quick update on the release of FSD works in Europe, such as Smart Summon. Musk was optimistic regarding its release, though he was also quite cautious about its projected period. That being said, that the CEO did note that for Europe, the release of features including Smart Summon should occur alongside the release of FSD, since the driverless function is simply a subset of the Full Self-Driving suite.
It was seen if Tesla’s change to a pure vision approach would allow it to conquer the challenges currently being experienced by Autopilot along with the FSD suite. However, the company seems to have been pondering a camera-only system for some time today, as signaled with a patent released in March which describes a system that uses two neural networks to accurately gauge the distances of items using only image data.
