Police on the hunt for GMC truck that caused Tesla Model 3, another vehicle, to roll over

A Tesla Model 3 and another vehicle rolled when a GMC pickup truck side-swiped the vehicle in Cottonwood Heights, Utah on Saturday afternoon. As of reporting, local authorities are searching for the driver of this truck, who fled the scene.

According to witnesses, the black GMC full-size pickup truck tried to pass several vehicles in the area of 7100 South Wasatch but neglected to complete the maneuver. This resulted with the Tesla Model 3, which crashed in the lane. The Tesla and the other vehicle were forced off the road, rolling over from the procedure. Initial reports say that five people who weren’t seriously injured were treated at the scene and released.

Police could recover a video of this episode from the Model 3, however it didn’t demonstrate the license plates. The Cottonwood Heights Police Department (CHPD) has not printed the video but shared information the GMC pickup truck most likely ongoing damages on the passenger side. The Tesla Model 3 proprietor has not shared footage out of the sedan.

CHPD is asking people to contact them for any information that will lead to the capture of this driver of the GMC pickup truck.

While it is unfortunate to hear an accident brought on by reckless drivers on the road, the Tesla Model 3 being one of the safest automobiles on the road today may have helped prevent severe injuries in this episode.  Rollover crashes are incredibly dangerous, with all the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) saying that approximately 35 percent of all traffic fatalities are brought on by rollovers. In spite of this, the occupants of this Model 3 managed to escape the episode with no severe injuries.
