The VW ID.4 is edging ever closer to its global debut on September 23 and has been teased in a new video from the German automaker.

Set to join the ID.3 in the all-electric VW family, the ID.4 takes the shape SUV and promises to be more spacious than its sibling. Not only does this video provide us with a very good idea of what the vehicle looks like before it is officially unveiled but VW has also confirmed it can tow up to 1,900 kg (4,200 lbs).

Such a figure is pretty respectable. Sure, the much larger Tesla Model X can tow up to 2,250 kg (4,960 lbs), but the VW ID.4 easily eclipses the Jaguar I-Pace’s measly towing capacity of 750 kg (1,653 lbs).

VW has been slowly releasing new images and sketches of the ID.4 in recent weeks but thanks to a leak out of China, we already know what the finished product will look like. Unsurprisingly, the design stays true to the original VW ID Crozz concept and follows the EV design philosophy that VW introduced with the ID.3.

Consequently, the front end lacks a traditional grille and there are instead intakes in the lower section of the front bumper. The ID.4 also has short front and rear overhangs as well as LED headlights and taillights.

As for the interior, the ID.4 will also be very similar to the ID.3. In fact, it will feature an identical steering wheel, the same digital instrument panel, and the same central touchscreen. In essence, the ID.4 is an SUV version of the ID.3, much like how the Tesla Model Y is effectively an SUV version of the Model 3 with many of the same parts.
