See This Casio? Watch It Unlock My Tesla!

The whole point of gaining the distant unlock ability for our cars was to prevent us from suffering the indignity of standing there in the rain, working a key into the lock while the groceries become soaked. [Mattia Dal Ben] reports that even Teslas get the blues and don’t unlock reliably all the time, in spite of the cost .

[Mattia] determined that a spare key card might be useful to have about, and that building it in to his Casio F-91W watch would place the crucial as close at hand as it could be without having an implant.

After designing a new J3A040-CL primary card to match the car, getting the chip out was the simple part — simply put it in acetone till you can peel the layers apart. Subsequently [Mattia] assembled a fresh antenna for it and wound it round the interior of a 3D printed rear plate.

The hardest part seems to be the leaning the eye antenna into the resonant frequency anticipated by the car-side antenna. [Mattia] found that a great deal of things jumble with all the resonant frequency — the watch PCB, casing, and even the very small screws holding the item together each drove off it a small bit.

Since the watch is less comfortable now, [Mattia] thought of building a new spine from translucent resin, which seems wonderful for us. It looks like the new strategy would be to transfer it into the front of the watch, with a resin window to show off the processor. That seems pretty good, too. Have a look at the secret unlocking power following the fracture.

Casio watches are great, though we’re more into the calculator models. Someone out there enjoys their F-91W so much they made a giant wall clock variation .
